Youth For Christ had three goals when starting its 2015 Youth Philanthropy Project:
- Teach young parents the skill of sewing with a sewing machine that they can use for a lifetime.
- Give the participants an opportunity to give back to their community
- Initiate contact with new teen moms who are unaware of Youth for Christ’s Teen Parent Program and its benefits.
They accomplished all three by the time they completed their project earlier this year.
The current youth involved in the YFC Teen Parent program purchased supplies and learned to sew taggie blankets, then turned around and donated them to other teen parents in-need.
Said Marla of YFC, “Teen Moms who have delivered at Columbus Community Hospital have received a taggie blanket made by a teen parent participating in thus project and also information about the Youth for Christ Teen Parent Program. The teen parents participants learned budgeting, planning, and beginning sewing. A huge benefit to them was also being able to give back to the community who has helped them in their personal situations.”
The group made and delivered 48 taggie blankets to the Columbus Community Hospital.
